When I first started playing the guitar I was in a big hurry to become
a good player. I was willing to work hard not only at practice, but also work hard seeking out good teachers, books and any other materials I
could find. Well, it didn't take long to see that just about everyone has a different way of looking at music and how to apply musical ideas to
the guitar. Many of the books I saw described things in a way that was not understandable, and conflicted with the same concept presented in
other books. Many of the concepts that needed to be understood were of the generic music
theory variety. Others were about fingerings and such, but it seemed that a good, simple, straightforward explanation was unavailable from any
single source. Somehow I sensed that there must be a simpler way to look at these concepts and apply them to my guitar playing.
After spending an incredible year at Musicians Institute in Hollywood CA I started to see the big picture. Simplicity is the key! Through goal setting, visualization, applying
time frames and isolating small workable pieces, the whole process of learning
guitar can be speeded up dramatically. Working with students over many
years I have found what works and how to make things understandable. The Yellow Guitar Books Vol
I and Case Studies For Guitar series is the culmination of my journey with the guitar and my desire to share it with others.
Here is a little information about what I am doing:
- Writing new Case Studies For
Guitar.
- Teaching privately.
- Recording a new Better
Late CD.
- Learning C6 Tuning 8 String Lap Steel Guitar.
- Creating reality a day at a time.
Best Wishes,
John Joy
